Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) in Sulaymaniyah was founded and licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq according to the Kurdistan Region Government’s official letter on October 18, 2009
It has also officially been recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in IRAQ
KUST is a private university governed by a Board of Trustees and administered by its University Council
Its main campus is located in the city of Sulaymaniyah, in Kurdistan, Iraq
The first batch of students was admitted to KUST in Fall 2012 which was around 120 students and now has more than 3500 students
The academic programs are based on internationally recognized programs in particular, the Bachelor’s Degree program is designed in accordance with the American Higher Education System
KUST’s academic programs attempt to fulfill the international criteria set by professional associations that accredit similar academic programs in the United States of America and all over the world
Thus, KUST’s graduates will acquire ethics, knowledge and skills similar to their peers in the developed countries.
Komar University, since its inception, has been steadfastly dedicated to advancing Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on specific goals implemented within its operations. Embracing sustainable practices within the institution comes with notable costs, particularly within the context of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). However, driven by a firm commitment to enriching the quality of education and assuming a significant societal role, KUST has embarked on courageous initiatives aimed at fulfilling its obligations toward fostering a better future for its graduates and the wider community.
The education program at KUST is well-designed according to the international accreditation requirements such as ABET for Engineering, AACSB for Business, NAACLS for Medical Laboratory Science, CODA for Dentistry, ACPE for Pharmacy.
KUST is currently at an exciting stage of its development and has 15 departments and is planning to open some other departments in the near future.

The dorms are well-equipped, regularly maintained, and located within close proximity to academic buildings—ensuring convenience, security, and a true sense of community for both local and international students.

Classrooms, offices, laboratories, and associated equipment at KUST are adequate to support the attainment of the student learning outcomes and to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning
Modern tools, equipment, computing resources, and laboratories appropriate to the program are made available, accessible, and systematically maintained and upgraded to enable students to attain the student learning outcomes and to support program needs
Furthermore, KUST has significantly contributed to scientific research endeavors aligned with sustainable development goals. Its scholarly output, spanning areas such as water and solid waste management, as well as renewable energy applications, has garnered recognition in internationally esteemed journals. As such, KUST remains resolutely committed to its vision and mission, steadfastly working towards realizing all facets of sustainable development by the target year of 2030.
Students are provided with appropriate guidance regarding the use of the tools, equipment, computing resources, and laboratories available to the program
As part of its commitment to digital transformation and efficient academic management, Komar University has implemented a comprehensive online system to support students, faculty, and administrators. This system, known as MyKomar, was developed in-house by the university’s staff and is the first of its kind in the Kurdistan Region. It consists of multiple integrated subsystems that facilitate key academic tasks such as:Student Attendance Management
